As always, choosing just three athletes to be a part of my Players of the Week was not the easiest decision to make. However, I have narrowed it down and believe I have selected the top three performances from this past weekend. Also, while the fans decided the MVP of the Week I believe their selection was well-deserved.
Players of the Week:
Dom Mogavero – Batavia – 170 yards rushing; 3 rushing TDs; 11 tackles defensively
This weekend the Batavia offense clicked on all cylinders against Hornell. Leading the group, Dom Mogavero finished with 3 long touchdown runs that helped his team earn a 20-point victory. As the Devils’ primary back thus far Mogavero has been highly effective, especially the past two weeks.

Allen Chatt – Oakfield – 199 yards passing; 3 passing TDs; 85 yards rushing; 1 rushing TD; 2 interceptions defensively
Cruising to an easy victory on Friday night, Allen Chatt and the Oakfield Hornets had a night to remember. Individually for OA Chatt dominated both sides of the ball, finishing with 4 touchdowns and over 250 all-purpose yards along with 2 interceptions on defense. Moving into a tie for second place in the division with their Week 3 victory, the Hornets are suddenly 1 game back and have plenty of momentum going into next week. I bet they can’t wait for Saturday.

Derek Walker – Attica – 3 receptions; 87 yards; 1 receiving touchdown; 1 interception defensively; 1 interception return for a TD
Derek Walker has proved to be a big play waiting to happen this season, and following a few long kick returns during the first two weeks of the season, Walker continued his impressive play versus the Trojans on Friday night. Contributing 3 receptions for over 80 yards and the touchdown offensively, it was the pick-6 late in the fourth quarter which sealed the game for his team. Walker is having a very under-the-radar year.

MVP of the Week:
Allen Chatt – Oakfield (62.07 percent of the vote)
Following a full day of voting, here are the results:
This was certainly the Performance of the Year in high school football so far, but time will tell if it stands up over the course of the next few weeks. Look for Chatt’s 4-touchdown day during the voting for our Batavia’s Best Awards, coming at the end of the Fall season!!
Congratulations to all of our Week 3 selections!!
