Here are my selections:

Players of the Week:

Greg Mruczek – Batavia – 10/18, 165 yards passing, 4 passing touchdowns

Against Dansville on Friday night, Mruczek had it going early and often. Connecting for 4 total touchdowns through the air, the Blue Devils’ quarterback put on quite the show versus the Mustangs. Being his breakout game of the season, look for Mruczek to truly be tested next week against a tough Geneva team who is coming off a loss and likely to be as hungry as ever on defense.

 ——————–

 John Hochmuth – Elba – 10 receptions, 154 yards receiving, 7 tackles, 1 interception

John Hochmuth did it all for the Elba Lancers on Saturday. In a game where offense was at a premium, the big tight end was still able to exceed the century mark in receiving yards after grabbing 10 receptions on the day. To go with his fantastic offensive performance Hochmuth was a stalwart on defense as well. On a key play late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest, Hochmuth made the key interception to seal the deal for the Lancers, giving them the 7-6 win and sole possession of second place.

——————–

Alex Piechocki – Attica – 25 carries, 122 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 1 fumble recovery returned for a touchdown

Much like Hochmuth, Piechocki was all over the field in his team’s Week 4 game this weekend. Replacing injured running back Jake Strzelec on Saturday, Piechocki went for two scores and eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground, while also recovering a key fumble on defense which he returned for a touchdown. If Attica is to be without Strzelec in their league matchup with the Elba Lancers next week, look for Piechocki to perhaps carry the mail once again.

——————–

Sam Browne Alexander – 2 receptions, 110 yards, 1 receiving touchdown (75 yards), 1 punt return for a touchdown (85 yards)

Showing signs of Devin Hester on Friday night, Sam Browne was a big play waiting to happen. Accumulating over 100 receiving yards in only 2 receptions against Holley, Browne was also able to get behind the defense several other times but couldn’t be found by the Alexander QB (his brother Jared). To go with his breakout day on offense, Browne also returned a punt for a touchdown versus the Hawks.

This week marks the first that I have selected 4 athletes for my Players of the Week. With so many exciting performances all across the High School football scene this past weekend, it was impossible to limit myself to only three. Now it’s your turn.

Who deserves MVP for Week 4?
