The Batavia Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams swept the Section V Class C Indoor Track Championships over the weekend, as the Boys overcame second place team University Prep by almost 20 team points, while the Girls edged runner-up Wayne by just 8 team points.

Five Batavia athletes won individual titles in order to help their team’s cause.

On the Girls side, Kiaya Franklin continued her strong HS Track career by winning the 300 meter run. Her final time of 41.93 was a full second ahead of second place finisher Megan McMullen (43.02) of Aquinas. In addition, Brianna Bromley (3000 meter run) and Emily Caccamise (1500 meter race walk) also finished the meet as Section V Class C Indoor Track Champions in their respective events.

For the Boys, thrower Butch Ray once again led the way for the Blue Devils, as the senior standout furthered his success on the track with first place finishes in the Shot Put (55’3″), and the Weight Throw (54’10.5″). It is the third-consecutive season in which Butch won both events at the Section V Class C Indoor Track Championships. Another back-to-back champ, Eric Davis, once again won the 55 Hurdles by just .10 over Michael Warren of University Prep. Davis’ final time was 7.68.

Next up for the area’s Indoor Track athletes will be the State Qualifier – where we will find out who is headed to the NYSPHSAA Championships.

Coming into this year, Batavia has had at least one athlete qualify for the NYSPHSAA Championships for 24-straight seasons.
