Devon Koepp

Batavia Football – Lineman

Year: Senior

Post-graduation plans: Devon plans on either going to a 4-year college for Dietetics and Nutrition or Health and Wellness.

Favorite thing about HS sports: “The discipline that the sports give you. Because at the end of it all, playing those sports help make you who you are today. They also help you become a better person.”

AB: How have sports helped mold you as an individual?

DK: “They have showed me discipline, hard work, and what commitment really is. Playing all the sports that I have growing up changed me; it really has turned me into a better person and man.”

AB: Has there been any added difficulty balancing the two different sports (track and football)?

DK: “Yes it has been pretty difficult at times, especially during the summers. I have off season football that I have to be there for, but this year I had practices and meets for the Junior Olympics so I had to miss two weeks of football that I wound up making up during 2 a days. It was difficult but it’s something I had to do. During the school year its not really difficult, though, because track and football really never interfered with each other.”

AB: You’ve participated at a high level in each sport during high school. What has helped you reach your peak of development as an athlete?

DK: “People just supporting me and encouraging me to be the best and do great things. My coaches pushing me when things were tough, etc. I would say all the offseason work has played a part as well.”

AB: Who has helped you the most throughout that process – whether it be a coach, family member, etc.?

DK: “I would have to say my mom and Coach Burk. My mom has taken me and paid for the trips to the Junior Olympics and she really supports me and wants me to do my best. She really has helped me. But as far as my coaches, Coach Burk has really gotten me focused on doing my best while also staying relaxed. He has helped me the most in that aspect.

AB:Last question, what will you continue to do in order to improve your team’s chances at a Sectional Title, and how do you feel about those chances?

DK: “I’ll do my best to be the best leader that I can be to help the team. I’ll try and keep the team focused on the prize and that’s a Sectional Title this year. I feel like our teams chances are very high. Our team is really great, the chemistry that we have is fantastic. Its really awesome going out of my Senior year with the chemistry our team has. So I think our teams chances of winning Sectionals and doing well in Sectionals is very high”

Devon Koepp has played a wonderful season for his team in the trenches all year long. While his team sits at 5-1 approaching their final game this weekend, the Blue Devils are currently ranked the #24 team in the state and will continue to improve going forward. Look for Batavia on the postseason radar in a few weeks.
