In Class D1, Notre Dame will be the only local representative striving for a chance at the Sectional Title.

With #1 Genesee Valley (18-1) seemingly owning the top of the bracket (although #4 HAC [8-11] could upset them in the second round), it will be up to the Irish to advance past a stingy #3 Mount Morris (11-8) team during the semi finals – as I expect ND to ease past their quarterfinal matchup with the winner of #7 Lyndonville (7-12) and #10 Alfred-Almond (5-14). The MM Blue Devils possess a quality amount of size and athleticism and they, along with a well-sized Genesee Valley team, will be the top two threats for ND within this class.

Here is a breakdown for each team:

Genesee Valley

-Leading scorers are 5’10” Senior Tyler Zlomek (19 ppg) and 6’6″ Junior Carter Schneider (15 ppg). Schneider’s high-game of 31 points came against Bolivar-Richburg, while Zlomek also recorded his career-high against B-R in an earlier matchup (28 points). Each have scored over 20 multiple times

-Their only loss came to Houghton Academy during the beginning of the season. Notre Dame defeated Houghton last year during the postseason

-Outside of Schneider, they don’t possess a whole lot of quality size – perhaps Elba can give them trouble in the quarterfinals if the Lancers are to defeat Hammondsport during the first round. John Hochmuth is a player with nice size and may be able to counter Schneider

Mount Morris

-A solid team that won’t make an abundance of mistakes and also possesses decent size. Will give Notre Dame a run for their money in the semi finals

-I admittedly do not know a lot about them but have seen them play briefly during the offseason and came away relatively impressed for them being a smaller-school

Not a lot to report here other than if the Irish can take care of business within their half of the bracket, they will likely be in the Finals. Genesee Valley could give them trouble when they get there, however, as ND is relatively undersized.
