Tiara has been a top player on the Batavia Girls Basketball team for quite some time. With the ability to play both inside and outside, the Junior forward has led the Devils to great things during her time in the starting lineup and has also been a large part in their success this season. Here is her profile:

#22 Tiara Filbert – Forward – Batavia Girls Basketball

Height: 5’9″
Class: Junior

Favorite thing about high school sports: “I like the fact it gives me a forum to lay a foundation in learning new skills before going on to an even higher level of play. It is a safe atmosphere to make mistakes and not have to feel you have to be perfect. I like being able to meet different people with different personalities. Whether it being a team sport or individual, we all know we are striving to better each other and ourselves as we progress in a season.”

Most memorable moments of high school sports career: “A most memorable moment is presumably becoming the first female to reach a 1,000 points as a varsity basketball player (at Batavia). A close second was being the first girls team to achieve Division Champions – two years in a row.”

Future plans after high school: “I would like to be accepted into college and continue to play basketball while pursuing my career in the field of psychology.”

AB: Who is your biggest hero, in terms of sports?

TF: My biggest hero hands down has to be Derrick Rose. His determination after his injury to be better than he was prior to it shows the type of player he aspires to be. His mindset on working hard at anything he does inspires me to play my best any and every time I step out onto the basketball court, or when I participate in other sporting events.

AB: Is there anything that makes you nervous while playing sports?

TF: When I am having an off performance in any event is quite nerve racking for me. Over years of experience at a higher level of competition, I have learned to adjust to work around the dry spell at that time. Whether conserving energy for the last mile, making that extra pass for a better shot, or just taking a small moment to collect my thoughts so I can focus on the task at hand are some ways that I combat my nerves during a sporting event.

AB: Outside of those you already play, what other sport do you wish you would have played?

TF: I have always wanted to play football. From playing tackle football with my brother when we were younger spiked my interest in being a kicker. I got a taste of being tackled from playing lacrosse for the last two years, but it was also fun to get to know the guys in practice, and that they accepted me as one of them and had my back when we were out on the field.. But when it came to football, that was one field my mom wasn’t ready to see me walk onto.

AB: Off the court, what do you enjoy doing to pass the time?

TF: I enjoy doing leisurely things such as reading and playing videogames. But when I start getting a little antsy, I always somehow find myself back at the basketball court in the park practicing or playing a pick-up game.

AB: If you were to select your most impressive accomplishment as an athlete, what would it be?

TF: I would have to say that being able reach one thousand points this season is my biggest accomplishment. Out of all the sports I play, being able to hit this point in my best sport was a significant accomplishment to me.

Tiara has shown throughout her career that she belongs on the list of the top players ever to play at BHS. Putting together a 1,000-point campaign over the past several years, Filbert  will likely continue to wreak havoc within Monroe County – while also making a push for a Section V Title. To go with her fantastic ability, Filbert is also a smart player who seems to make the correct play more often than not. She can dribble, score, pass, and defend the other team’s best player, while also providing sound leadership through her incredible effort and toughness. Good luck to Tiara and the entire Batavia Girls Basketball team as they approach the end of the regular season!!!
