John has played incredibly well as a Junior for Elba this season and looks primed to lead his team to great things in the future. Just last night, the Lancers forward recorded 23 in the first half against first place Wheatland-Chili, proving Hochmuth’s worth as one of the top players in the area. Here is his profile:

Favorite thing about high school sports: “My favorite thing about high school sports is the competition that it brings out of people. Playing in intense games and practices is the best part about sports.”

Most memorable moments of high school sports career: “The most memorable moment of my sports career was winning the first football game played at Byron-Bergen. It was a very tough game and we fought until the last second to win the game.”

Future plans after high school: “My future plans after high school is to hopefully attend a four year college and play either football or basketball.”

AB: Who inspired you as you grew up in athletics?

JH: As I grew up I looked up to the greatest athletes as inspiration. Even though I wasn’t old enough to watch them live, I watched videos of Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, and Jerry Rice. They inspired me to be great. However, my dad was my greatest inspiration. He taught me everything I know about sports.

AB: Have their been any challenges that you have overcome which have helped you develop into the athlete you are today?

JH: Just working hard in the off seasons and different lessons that I have learned along the way have helped me develop.

AB: What relationships have you built along the way that have directly led to you success as a player?

JH:Different relationships that I have built that have helped me were with other players and my coaches. Coach Beehler and Coach Zambito have helped me a lot developing as a player during the season and offseason. Being able to get to know players around the league has helped me as well. These friendships increase the competition during the game and that has made me play better.

AB: Is there any sort of routine you endure during the offseason in order to better your game?

JH: Every year in the summer I attend the Batavia Basketball Training Camp for basketball. Everybody who attends wants to get better so its a great chance to better my game. Also I play basketball with my dad and he helps me in every aspect of the game.

AB: Finally, what do you aspire to accomplish as an athlete?

JH: My biggest goal as an athlete is to win a Sectional Championship. I would feel like I truly accomplished something in athletics if I was able to bring a team to a Sectional Championship.

John’s incredibly ability in both basketball and football over the past few years has impressed many throughout the area, including myself. For such a big guy, the athleticsm that he is able to perform with on a daily basis is unique to any player with his skill set, and will likely serve him well at the next level. Good luck to John and the entire Elba Boys Basketball team as they approach the Sectional Tournament.
