Coming Up:

Next week we will have Batavia (5-1) @ Bath-Haverling (6-0); Oakfield (3-3) @ Attica (6-0); Alexander (4-2) @ Elba (4-2); Notre Dame (3-3) @ Holley (1-5); and Pembroke (0-6) @ CG Finney.

With Attica securing first place this past week, Alexander and Elba will play in the GR’s de facto second place game in
Week 6, while Oakfield and Notre Dame will battle it out for third. Outside of the GR, Batavia will face Bath in what is guaranteed to be an exciting game.

Following my first 5-0 week of the season, I am now 20-9 on the season. Someone call the fire department.

Star of the Weekend:

Elba’s Richard Flores singlehandedly kept his team in the game on Friday night using a 100 yard pick-6 to put the Lancers ahead going into halftime. It was 1 of 2 interceptions for Flores on the night, in a game that Elba would eventually win 16-7, as he truly catalyzed his squad against the Hawks.

Worth Repeating:

“We clinched a home Sectional game in a total team win. We dominated from snap one, as we should have, and we now need to turn the page and get ready for next week.”

-Brennan Briggs (Batavia HC)

Keep an Eye On:

Steele Truax put forth a fantastic effort this past week versus Cardinal O’Hara. Not only was Truax his team’s most-effective runner on Friday night, but he also collected 15 tackles (11 solo) as well as a sack in a game where he led his team both with his play as well as his emotion. Keep an eye on Steel Truax going forward.

Lagniappe:

Just before the first half came to a close between Attica and Notre Dame, a tipped pass along the outside fell right into an Attica defender’s hands as time was winding down, and he returned it the distance for the score. The gift turned out to be all the Blue Devils would need on Saturday afternoon.
