Favorite thing about high school sports: “My favorite thing about playing high school sports is that I have an opportunity to play a game I love with some of my best friends. The fact that we see each other every day and then have to go to school and see each other for another 6 hours is very beneficial as it brings us a lot closer as a team. As the season progresses we become a family rather than just a team. Also I love being able to represent a part of me. I chose to go to ND and I like being able to show people why I did and what our school is all about.”

Most memorable moments of high school sports career: “The most memorable moments of my high school career are always against Churchville-Chili. My 8th grade year, we played against them at home and on the power play late in the game, I scored my first high school goal. Later that season, we went to a tournament in Plattsburgh and ended up winning the tournament that Churchville was also in. they were ranked one of the best teams in the state that year. My 9th grade year, we had a game rescheduled at 8 in the morning on a Saturday due to a snow storm. We played and  lost 10-0. Two weeks later we got redemption as we won 6-4 in which I received my first high school hat trick and a total of 4 points.

Future plans after high school: “My plans for after high school aren’t very clear to me right now. I would like to go to college for something in the medical field or maybe financially. I would like to play Junior A hockey somewhere in this area as well.”

AB: What do you enjoy most about being out on the ice?

RW: What I like most about being on the ice is just playing the game and trying to put the puck in the net. I love making moves on guy and putting it bar down on the goalie or even spinning off of someone and passing back door to my friends to score. I like being out on the ice with my friends and competing for something we desperately want.

AB: Who has contributed most to your success as a hockey player since you began playing?

RW: I would say that the people who have contributed most to my success as a hockey player are my parents because of everything they do for me. All the travel and time they put into me is amazing and I’m so grateful. Finally, coach Staley. He was the one who got me started in hockey when I was 7 and taught me just about everything I know about the game.

AB: How does hockey’s physical nature contribute to your appreciation for the sport?

RW: Hockey’s overall physical nature contributes to my love of the game because it forces you to keep your head up and makes you make quicker decisions. The game of hockey is all about quick thinking and reacting. If you couldn’t hit, the game would be a lot slower. Keeping your head up also allows you to make passes and consider your options instead of just throwing the puck away.

AB: What’s been your most memorable individual accomplishment on the ice?

RW: My most memorable accomplishment on the ice would probably be my first State Tournament. Our first game, we were down 5-4 and with literally no time left on the clock, I saw a rebound and buried it to tie the game. We didn’t end up doing that well in the tourney but I scored 7 goals in 4 games played.

AB: Where do you see hockey taking you in the future?

RW: In the future, I think hockey will take me to Juniors. I would love to be able to play college hockey in the NCAA but I don’t see that happening for me.

Webster, along with several other Irish underclassmen, proved throughout the season that the future is indeed bright for Notre Dame Hockey. Despite losing a few key-contributors, several youngsters will enjoy expanded roles next season and will give their squad a chance at incredible success. Congratulations to Ryan on a successful Sophomore season and good luck to the entire ND program as they approach the offseason!!
